Stephane, ACT volunteer in Palermo, Italy

26 years old from Brussels, Belgium

“I would advise my friends to volunteer abroad, whether to gain more autonomy, learn to live together, help each other, discover another country or improve a language, this brought me a lot”

I chose to participate in this project because I like to help people, and also because I wanted to discover Sicily.

I work primarily with younger children and adult migrants. My program is varied, I go once or twice a week to a house for unaccompanied younger children where I spend some time with them, I serve breakfast too in a center that offers free services to people in need, we also go looking for products in a supermarket and then take them to a kindergarten and I work in the office of “Per Esempio” where I prepare workshops.

As a personal project, I want to make a video clip with young migrants and Italians on the theme of multiculturalism.

I love this city, both the diversity of its landscape and its history, when I have free time, I take the opportunity to walk around and discover new places. I think it’s Europe and Africa, both in the same place.

I would advise my friends to volunteer abroad, whether to gain more autonomy, learn to live together, help each other, discover another country or improve a language, this brought me a lot.
